Anti-hair loss shampoo, does it really work?
Shampoos can strengthen hair and care for the scalp, but do not stop hair loss. Do you really want to prevent hair loss? Discover proven effective treatments such as Minoxidil and Finasteride.
Can a shampoo work against hair loss?
Shampoos can help keep hair and scalp healthy, but they stop hair loss not. Most shampoos focus on cleansing the scalp, reducing excess sebum production, and caring for hair follicles. This can contribute to healthy hair and a better condition of the hair, but it will not prevent hair loss.
Hair loss is in most cases caused by androgenic alopecia, where the hormone DHT attacks the hair follicles and ultimately causes thinning hair and hair loss. Since shampoos don't penetrate deep enough to affect DHT production, they can't stop the progression of hair loss. However, they can make hair look thicker or promote a healthy scalp.
Which shampoo works against hair loss?
While no shampoo can completely stop hair loss, some formulas can help keep hair healthier and look fuller. Shampoos with ingredients such as ccaffeine, biotin, rosemary oil and keratin can contribute to a better condition of the hair. However, these are supportive agents and not a solution for hair loss.
It's important to have realistic expectations: shampoos can improve overall scalp health and strengthen hair, but they won't address the underlying cause of hair loss. So don't expect miracles from expensive shampoos that are often offered for sale.
What are the key ingredients in hair loss shampoos?
While no ingredient stops hair loss, there are a number of substances that can have a positive impact on scalp health and support hair growth:
• Caffeine: Some research suggests that caffeine may help stimulate scalp blood flow and prolong the growth phase of hair.
• Biotin (Vitamin B7): Plays a role in keratin production, which can help keep your hair strong.
• Rosemary Oil: Often mentioned as a natural option to stimulate blood flow. By improving blood flow to the scalp, the growth phase of your hair follicle can be extended.
Although the above ingredients can contribute to healthy hair, the effect in shampoos is limited. This is because shampoo is usually rinsed out within a few minutes and has little time to work in. Before using minoxidil, for example, Fellos recommends not applying it 30 minutes before or after showering. Even after showering, the scalp absorbs topical agents such as minoxidil less well because the scalp is already moist.
What is effective against hair loss?
There are a number of treatments that have proven effective in increasing hair density in the case of hair loss.
1. Hair transplant — This allows you to permanently place new hair on balding areas. However, it is true that the untransplanted hair will continue to fall out if you suffer from hair loss. As a result, your hair will become even thinner. This is therefore the reason then minoxidil and finasteride are also often used after a hair transplant.
2. Minoxidil — A topical remedy that improves blood flow to the hair follicles and thus prolongs the growth phase
3. Finasteride — A medication that lowers DHT levels and thus reduces hair loss and can stimulate new hair growth. Finasteride is the most effective hair loss treatment.
4. Dermaroller/Microneedling — In combination with Minoxidil, can improve absorption and further stimulate hair growth. The small holes that a dermaroller makes in the skin ensure that extra blood is sent to it. Like you have a wound. This extra blood supply strengthens the hair.
